Mojave Gold opens in California

California’s Yucca Valley has welcomed a new restaurant, bar and live music venue, Mojave Gold.

Mojave Gold
The venue describes itself as a ‘cultural epicentre in the heart of the High Desert’

The site opened on 31 May and offers ‘new California cuisine, genre-defying performances, and intentional design’.

The project is a collaboration between Cooper Gillespie and Greg Gordon, of psych-pop band Landroid, and entrepreneurs Dale and Brookelyn Fox of Foxden Hospitality. Foxden Hospitality’s other projects include Dive Palm Springs.

“Mojave Gold is more than a venue – it’s a gathering place,” said Gillespie. “We built this for the community we love – a place where artists and dreamers come together to connect, create, and celebrate this unique region we call home.”

The drinks list has been curated by Gillespie. House cocktails include Bad Reputation, which is made with Ron del Barrilito 3 Star Rum, Amaro di Angostura, agave, lime and orange. Meanwhile, the bar’s eponymous serve features Rancho de la Luna Mezcal, lemon, chilli honey, velvet falernum and gold flakes.

The music programming will be curated by talent booker Liz Garo, who is behind Los Angeles venues the Echo and Echoplex.

Executive chef Beren Ekine-Huett will head the culinary programme, offering ‘California cuisine through a desert lens’. Small plates include cactus and citrus ceviche, while, for mains, guests could choose a Mojave veggie burger or a kale caesar salad.

Co-founder Fox is behind the interiors, which aim to reflect ‘the golden era of music’ through touches such as vintage brass furniture, a gold record-lined ceiling and reclaimed wood from the Hollywood Bowl.

Last month, California also saw the launch of Bar Benjamin in Hollywood.
