In honour of World Sea Turtle Day (16 June), Caribbean spiced rum Hawksbill has committed to protecting 100,000 sea turtle hatchlings over the next 12 months.

Hawksbill’s initiative supports nonprofit conservation organisation See Turtles and its ‘Billion Baby Turtles’ programme, which funds local communities to patrol nesting beaches worldwide. The program helps to ensure critically endangered species, such as the Hawksbill turtle, can safely hatch and reach the ocean.

Brad Nahill, president of See Turtles, commented: “Hawksbills are one of the most endangered turtles around the world and are critical to the health of coral reefs.

“This support from Hawksbill Rum will help coastal communities protect their nesting beaches and help restore their populations.”

Deena Brown, senior brand manager of Hawksbill Rum, said: “We’re thrilled to support See Turtles and take action to protect a species that not only inspires our brand but urgently needs our help.”

Last year, Hawksbill Caribbean Spiced Rum introduced a new design for its range which is composed of four expressions: Island Spices, Pineapple Core, Mango Peel, and Banana Skin Caribbean Spiced Rum. The design highlights the brand’s commitment to supporting Hawksbill sea turtles.

With sustainability at its core, the rum uses 100% recycled glass bottles and features sugarcane fibre labels, plant-based inks and seals, and waste cork closures.

The brand also uses fruit that would otherwise have been discarded in its mango, pineapple, and banana variants.

In addition to the new initiative with See Turtles, the Fortitude Spirits Group-owned spiced rum brand donates 10% of profits to the Barbados Sea Turtle Project.
