Mac-Talla ages whisky in Amarone casks for Fèis Ìle
By Miona MadsenMorrison Scotch Whisky Distillers-owned (MSWD) Mac-Talla has launched a limited edition single malt matured in Amarone casks to celebrate Fèis Ìle 2025.

The annual Islay festival, Fèis Ìle, celebrates music and whisky this year from 23-31 May.
For the third consecutive year, Islay whisky brand Mac-Talla has released a limited edition single malt to commemorate the occasion.
Following the 2023 edition, finished in Pedro Ximénez Sherry casks, and the 2024 release, matured in rum casks, the 2025 expression has been aged in first-fill Amarone della Valpolicella wine casks from northern Italy.
Bottled at 53.8% ABV, the expression showcases notes of dark fruits, chocolate, and spice, complemented by Mac-Talla’s signature peated character.
Lauren Doherty, senior brand manager at MSWD, said: “Each Fèis Ìle edition is an opportunity to explore the versatility of Islay malt through exceptional wood. This year’s Amarone cask finish adds depth and elegance, while still allowing that signature coastal smoke to shine through.”
Drawn from only two casks, the no-age-statement 2025 Amarone Cask Edition is now available from specialist retailers, with a recommended retail price of £78 (US$104).
Mac-Talla, which means ‘echo’ in Scottish Gaelic, was established by the Morrison family to showcase their profound connection to the island of Islay.
The brand sources its spirits from undisclosed distilleries on Islay and combines maritime peat with carefully selected cask finishes.
At this year’s Fèis Ìle, Mac-Talla will host exclusive events, including a ‘Journey of Taste Walk’ with brand ambassador Thomas Cuthbert on 26 May.
Earlier this year, the brand released a limited edition single malt, Mac-Talla Virgin Oak.
