RD1 Spirits to open Lexington distillery
By Ted SimmonsRD1 Distillery at The Commons, the firm’s new Lexington distillery, will open on 14 May and is three times bigger than its previous home.

The new two-storey building focuses on RD1’s practice of wood finishing. It features a research and development distillery, a wood-finishing lab, a speakeasy and Bourbon bar, private event spaces and a gift shop.
“What we’ve built with RD1 Distillery at The Commons is a Bourbon landmark unlike any other in Lexington,” said CEO Mike Tetterton. “Through The Commons development project, RD1 is expanding and enhancing Lexington’s Distillery District, revitalising entertainment for our community, and boosting tourism for our county.”
To commemorate the occasion, RD1 is releasing a 12-year-old Bourbon. The brand has chosen six barrels and bottled each separately at cask strength. Only 250 bottles are available exclusively on-site at US$799.
The limited whiskey is presented in a crystal decanter etched with gold, inside a black display case inspired by Lexington’s horse farm fencing.
“Opening RD1 Distillery at The Commons is a big first for us,” Tetterton added. “We wanted a very special Bourbon – worthy of collection – to help celebrate the unrivalled spirit of our hometown here in Lexington. The diverse flavour arc of this 12-year limited release, coupled with the stunning packaging, make this a treasured, first-class Bourbon.”
The whiskey ranges in proof from 60.55% to 63.65% ABV. On the nose, it shows notes of sweet caramel, leather, and fountain vanilla soda, while the palate brings rich oak, spiced peppercorn, and stone fruit.
Brand investor and Lexington community leader Mark Stoops will host a private Bourbon tasting at RD1 Distillery at The Commons in late summer for those who purchase a bottle of the 12-year-old by 15 July.
