Scottish whisky brand Loch Lomond has released two bottlings to commemorate The Open Championship.

The 153rd Open Championship will take place from 17-20 July 2025 at the Royal Portrush Golf Club in County Antrim, Northern Ireland. The AIG Women’s Open will take place at Royal Porthcawl between 30 July and 3 August 2025 in Wales for the first time.

Master blender Michael Henry has created two single malt whiskies as part of Loch Lomond’s multi-year partnership with The Open.

The first release, Open Special Edition 2025, was finished in Chianti wine casks from Tuscany after an initial ageing in American oak.

Offered at 46% ABV, the non-age statement single malt displays redcurrants, raspberries, crisp apples, and vanilla aromas, with mingling notes of honey, peach, pear, and red berries on the palate.

Maria Kitsati, country manager for Salud Austria, said: “We’re thrilled to introduce this special release that perfectly captures Loch Lomond’s craftsmanship. The Chianti wine cask finish adds remarkable depth to its signature style, creating a whisky that will delight both collectors and connoisseurs.”

The second 2025 Open edition, a 22-year-old, was initially aged in American oak barrels and hogsheads. It is described as a testament to Loch Lomond’s signature style.

The expression was finished in first-fill Spanish oak casks as a nod to La Girona, a ship from the Spanish Armada that sank near Royal Portrush in 1588.

Bottled at 46.7% ABV and non-chill filtered, the single malt displays aromas of honey, orchard fruits, and soft smoke, joined on the palate by layers of toffee, vanilla, baked apple, cinnamon spice, and oak.

Both editions are now available in limited quantities at select retailers, including in Austria exclusively through Salud.

Kitsati concluded: “This year’s allocation is exceptionally limited, and demand is high. We’re delighted to bring this prestigious whisky to Austria and hope to satisfy enthusiasts with its exquisite character.”

In 2023, the golf collaboration included Ben Lomond Gin and two limited edition whiskies.

Last year, Salud Austria unveiled a 12-year-old Loch Lomond single malt finished in a Madeira hogshead.

Earlier this year, Loch Lomond Group secured planning permission for its new multi-million-pound distillery and visitor centre in Luss, Dumbartonshire.
