Salud Austria reveals Madeira-matured whisky
Spirits distributor Salud has released a 12-year-old Loch Lomond whisky, aged in a Madeira hogshead cask, for the Austrian market.
The Austrian arm of Dutch bottler Salud Spirits, Salud Austria, is celebrating this year’s festive season with a limited release of Scottish single malt from Loch Lomond Distillery.
The unpeated single cask expression was distilled in 2011 and aged 12 years in a Madeira hogshead, with an outturn of just 205 bottles.
According to the Loch Lomond team, the whisky, offered at 55.3% ABV, displays notes of candied orange peel, golden syrup, baked red apple and cinnamon with ripe cherries and sweet cloves.
Bernhard Rems, a whisky expert and one of the first people to taste the expression, described the whisky as follows: “Great, super fruity whisky with a beautiful colour, offers a lot. Apples, pears, candy floss, cocktail cherries – although a tad alcoholic. It even has some grassy notes and a hint of almonds – a lot to like. It’s very nice and a great example of what the stills can do.”
The limited edition is now available in Austria through liquor stores and online retailers.
Salud Spirits is known for its bottlings of Chichibu Japanese single malt under the 7even Gods of Fortune series.
As a distributor, the company’s portfolio includes Waterford Irish whiskey and Crystal Head Vodka.
Last month, Loch Lomond Distillery launched its new The Waypoint Series.
