Molly Mc’s to open in Southwark
By Lauren BowesFounded by family-owned Mc & Sons Group, Molly Mc’s was inspired by Irish shebeens and singing pubs.

The group is led by brothers John and Ryan McElhinney, along with their father Jack, and currently operates five sites in London, all known for blending traditional Irish and contemporary London pub cultures.

The site will offer live music, singing rooms and an extensive Irish spirits list, and will draw on the ‘incredible life and entrepreneurial spirit of Mary McElhinney’, John and Ryan’s grandmother, who was affectionately known as Molly.
It will feature reclaimed vintage decor, warm wood tones and carefully curated memorabilia celebrating Molly’s legacy, including photos, personal letters and newspaper clippings about her successes.
Molly opened her first shop in 1935 in her hometown of Athboy, County Meath. She later opened McElhinney’s women’s shop in 1973, which became a cornerstone of the local retail scene.
Her motto was “it’s a matter of everyone going home happy”, which will be reflected at Molly Mc’s.
The shebeen-style singing rooms aim to replicate the charm of the historic secret, unlicensed drinking dens.
The cocktail menu will be based on liquid from Ireland’s distilleries, while food will be Thai-inspired.
“Our pubs have always been about more than just serving drinks – they’re about fostering a sense of community and belonging,” said Ryan. “With Molly Mc’s, we’re not just opening another pub; we’re creating a space that embodies the warmth, generosity, and spirit of our grandmother.
“Molly had an incredible ability to bring people together, whether in her home or through her business, and that’s exactly what we want to reflect here.
“From live trad music to intimate shebeen-style spaces, every detail is designed to make people feel at home – a place where stories are shared, friendships are formed, and everyone is welcomed.”
