Maybe Sammy seeks female scholar
One woman in the drinks industry could win a mentorship spot at Sydney cocktail bar Maybe Sammy, including a trip to Barcelona bar Paradiso.
Created in partnership with Campari Academy, the bar’s Women in Hospitality scholarship includes hands-on training with the team in Sydney, as well as a trip to Paradiso.
The scholarship aims to support a rising woman in hospitality, with the criteria for those looking to apply needing to be over the age of 18 and with one-year minimum of hospitality experience in the industry.
In an announcement video on Instagram, Krystal Hart, national bartender engagement and trade advocacy manager at Campari Academy Australia, said: “If you’re a female or female-identifying person working in the Australian hospitality community, then we have a mentorship fund ready for you. I’ve been working in the industry for 17 years – 15 of those were working behind a bar – and I was the only female in the bar team for most of that. Thankfully that has started to change a lot, but in my opinion, it’s not good enough.
“So, if you feel like you’re the person that could use some funds and a little bit of mentoring, then this is the mentorship for you. Get out your phone and film yourself for 30 seconds, tell us who you are, who your mentor is, and what you would use this fund for.”
Applications can be made by filling out a form on Maybe Sammy’s website alongside a short video explaining how the mentorship budget would be used to level up your career.
The winner will be announced at the Women in Hospitality Panel, which will take place on 13 April at Prefecture 48 in Sydney, during Maybe Sammy’s cocktail festival.
Tickets to the event are AU$25 (US$16), with proceeds going directly to funding the scholarship.
