Kavalan unveils Solist Palo Cortado
Taiwanese producer Kavalan has completed its ‘Sherry family’ of Solist whiskies with a Palo Cortado cask-aged single malt.
The new Solist expression completes the Taiwan-based distillery’s Sherry portfolio, which comprises seven Sherry cask-aged whiskies: fino, oloroso, amontillado, manzanilla, Pedro Ximénez, Moscatel, and now, Palo Cortado.
Kavalan’s Solist single cask series is bottled at cask strength, non-chill-filtered and with natural colour.
According to YT Lee, CEO of Kavalan, completing the Sherry cask portfolio provides whisky enthusiasts with the most comprehensive opportunity to experience a variety of Sherry cask-aged whiskies globally.
Lee said: “With Palo Cortado accounting for less than 1% of global Sherry production, we saved one of the rarest and most unique Sherry casks to last. Uniquely combining the elegance of amontillado with the richness of oloroso, our Palo Cortado is replete with intricate aromas of cocoa powder, citrus, dried fruits, pastries and toffee.”
The whisky cask’s character is emphasised with a bright yellow label, which is said to symbolise the Sherry type’s versatility and adaptability for food pairings.
The whisky displays aromas of cocoa powder, citrus, matured dried fruits, toffee, nuts, a hint of vanilla fruitcake, and fragrant cardamom, joined on the palate by notes of orange pound cake, vanilla, toasted biscuit, caramel toffee and crushed walnut.
Solist Palo Cortado is available through Kavalan’s official channels in Taiwan, including the distillery shop, Kavalan whisky shops and whisky bar, as well as select local liquor stores.
Encased in a wooden box, the whisky is offered between 50%-59.9% ABV in 750ml bottles.
Last year, the distillery released a special edition whisky aged in Palo Cortado casks to commemorate the 45th anniversary of its parent company, King Car Group.
Meanwhile, so far this year Kavalan has launched its annual limited edition gift sets and created two Grand Reserve expressions exclusively for Lotte Duty Free.
