Kavalan celebrates King Car’s 45th anniversary
By Miona MadsenKavalan Single Malt has launched a special edition whisky aged in Palo Cortado casks to commemorate the 45th anniversary of its parent company, King Car Group.

Palo cortado Sherry accounts for less than 1% of global Sherry production, and combines the elegance of amontillado with the richness of oloroso. The King Car 45th Anniversary Edition: Kavalan Palo Cortado Sherry Cask single malt whisky embodies the cask’s ‘rarity and mystery’.
The expression joins the distillery’s Sherry cask collection, which features oloroso, fino, amontillado, manzanilla, Pedro Ximénez, and moscatel casks.
Bottled at 54% ABV, the expression showcases a deep caramel mahogany colour and aromas of cocoa powder, citrus, dried fruits, pastries, and toffee.
On the palate, nutty flavours blend with hints of vanilla fruitcake and fragrant cardamom. The finish displays flavours reminiscent of orange pound cake with rich dried fruits, raisins, vanilla, toasted biscuits, caramel toffee, and crushed walnuts.
The flowing cello-shaped bottle design, topped with a 27cm wide Swarovski crystal, was inspired by Taiwan’s Snow Mountain Range, which symbolises strength and resilience. The set comes with a specially crafted tasting glass representing the brand’s commitment to celebrating whisky.
The wooden box features elegant golden lines outlining the mountains, emphasising the connection between Taiwan’s natural landscape and the King Car Group.
The anniversary edition, priced at NT$25,000 (US$777/€710) and limited to just 10,000 sets worldwide, is available at all Kavalan outlets, including retail stores, the distillery’s Spirit Castle, Kavalan Whisky Bar, and select local liquor stores.
King Car Group was founded in 1979, and the Kavalan Distillery opened in 2005.
In August, The Spirits Business talked to Kavalan’s CEO, Y.T. Lee, to discover the secret behind the single malt’s success.
Last month, the brand created a single malt for export markets, Kavalan Lán.
Next month, Kavalan will sponsor the Young Achiever of the Year prize at The Spirits Business Awards 2024,
