Kentucky Artisan Distillery opens barrel tasting experience

Contract distiller Kentucky Artisan Distillery (KAD) is now giving visitors a chance to taste barrel samples of its five whiskey recipes.

The Clubhouse will offer barrel tastings of five different mash bills

KAD will open the doors to its Clubhouse Barrel Tasting Experience on 31 January, marking the first time visitors will be able to taste the whiskeys straight from the barrel. As a contract distiller, KAD has worked with Jefferson’s Reserve, Cream of Kentucky, Whiskey Row Bourbon and Coalition Whiskey.

“Our years of distilling experience and deep connection to Kentucky Bourbon means we infuse quality and authenticity in every barrel we produce,” said master distiller Jade Peterson. “This creates a single-barrel experience for visitors that is an authentic tribute to the spirit of Bourbon. Plus, we’ll be the only barrel-tasting experience in Kentucky that offers five very different mash bills.”

The KAD Clubhouse barrel tasting menu includes: a two-year-old wheated Bourbon with a mash bill of 70% corn, 20% wheat and 10% malted barley at 55% ABV; a four-year-old four grain Bourbon with a mash bill of 67% corn, 12.5% rye, 12.5% wheat and 8% malted barley at 53% ABV, a four-year-old high-rye Bourbon with a mash bill of 60% corn, 36% rye, and 4% malted barley at 52.5% ABV; a three-year-old 95% rye at 54% ABV; and a four-year-old single malt at 54% ABV.

The Clubhouse is located a half mile from the distillery at 6316 Old LaGrange Road. It will be open Friday and Saturday from 11am to 5pm and Sunday from noon to 5pm. Tickets are US$30 per person, and visitors will be able to fill their own bottle straight from their favourite barrel. Walk-ins are welcome, though reservations are recommended.

“KAD is unique among craft distilleries,“ added Jade Peterson. “Our distillery is truly as close as a modern production facility can get to how Bourbon was crafted 200 years ago. Our grains are harvested from fields just a mile away and under the care of our team undergo the process of milling, mashing, distilling, ageing and bottling right here on site.

“For more than a decade we’ve been home to some of the finest brands in the market and now are thrilled to be able to share the KAD barrel tasting experience with visitors.”
