High West and Casa Noble create Tequila-finished rye
Constellation Brands-owned High West Distillery and Casa Noble have combined on a rye whiskey finished in Marques Añejo Tequila barrels.
High West Distillery is located in Park City, Utah, and is known for its blended whiskeys.
For the limited release, named Noble Share, the distillery has partnered with Casa Noble, a seventh-generation Tequila maker, to make a rye whiskey finished in Casa Noble’s Marques Añejo French Oak barrels.
Casa Noble Founder & Maestro Tequilero, Pepe Hermosillo, said the result is a “whiskey with layers of flavour, merging the richness of aged Tequila with the spice-forward character of High West rye, and that tells a story of innovation and respect for tradition.”
The limited expression is a blend of four to 10-year-old rye whiskeys, including MGP rye with a mashbill of 95% rye and 5% malted barley, and HWD rye from Sazerac made with 80% rye and 20% malted barley.
The whiskeys were finished in Tequila barrels for six months, which give the profile ‘subtle’ agave and lemongrass notes with light vanilla. In addition, a portion of the blend is finished in Amburana barrels to ‘elevate the whiskey further’, enhancing the blend’s complexity with a slight nuance of cinnamon stick.
Other notes that can be found include a nose of ripe mango, ruby grapefruit and spiced apple cider, while the palate delivers tastes of baked pear, charred peaches, ginger molasses, orange blossom and freshly fried churro.
Hermosillo added that the collaboration “bridges the worlds of whiskey and Tequila”.
Offered at 52% ABV, Noble Share is now available in limited quantities in Utah-only for US$174.99, at High West General Store in Old Town Park City, High West Distillery on Blue Sky Ranch in Wanship, or state liquor stores.
Tara Lindley, director of Sensory QA and new product development at High West, said: “This collaboration is something that will appeal to both whiskey and Tequila connoisseurs.
“The dichotomy of the brands and their respective regions is reflected on the label, mirroring one another yet displaying their vastly different geographies.
“This is an exciting collaboration for the spirits community, and High West is honoured to blend its’ whiskey traditions with Casa Noble’s heritage and offer this new expression to consumers.”
Both producers are owned by Constellation Brands, which saw its wine and spirits net sales drop by double digits in the second quarter (Q2) of fiscal 2025.
Recently, High West announced that submissions for the first round of its bartending competition have opened.
