Shirman’s career spans more than 15 years, with a decade at global spirits companies including Diageo, Pernod Ricard, Whyte & Mackay, and Campari.

He is said to bring ‘unparalleled industry knowledge and experience’ to his new role.

With expertise in both domestic and international markets, Shirman has been instrumental in driving growth and establishing a market presence for some of the ‘world’s most respected’ brands.

His career journey also includes five years scaling drinks startups, challenger brands, and SMEs.

According to Hattiers, Shirman’s experience and strategic insights will play a crucial role in elevating the brand to new heights in the UK and beyond.

As sales director, Shirman will lead the commercial expansion of Hattiers Rum, focusing on scaling the brand’s presence in current and emerging markets, strengthening distribution networks, and fostering relationships with key partners to accelerate growth.

Philip Everett-Lyons, founder of Hattiers Rum, expressed his excitement about the new appointment: “Richard is a transformative addition to the Hattiers team. His deep understanding of large-scale brand operations and nimble startup growth aligns perfectly with our vision. With Richard’s guidance and the support of our trusted partners, we are confident in realising Hattiers’ full potential on the global stage.”

Following success in the UK market, the purpose-driven, Devon-based English rum brand is now preparing for international expansion.

Last month, Hattiers Rum announced its ambitions to raise more than £1 million (US$1.3m) in funding to accelerate global growth.

In May 2023, Hattiers Rum appointed drinks communicator Tom Surgey as its brand ambassador.
