Country music star Chris Stapleton made his move into the spirits sector this year, partnering with Kentucky’s Buffalo Trace Distillery on Traveller Whiskey Blend No. 40. Traveller Whiskey was released in the US in January and went on to win Gold at The American Whiskey Masters 2024 blind-tasting competition in August.

It followed this award with the top accolade in The Luxury Masters contest in October, where it stormed to success to win the Taste Master title. According to Buffalo Trace, Traveller is now the most awarded superpremium whiskey release of 2024, winning 15 medals from spirits competitions since its launch.

Additional top awards include the Best in Class Gold at the 2024 Whiskies of the World competition, Double Platinum from the 2024 Ascot Awards and Double Gold from the 2024 Tag Global Spirits Award. Traveller is a blend of whiskeys hand- selected from Sazerac-owned distilleries, including Buffalo Trace. Created under the supervision of Buffalo Trace master distiller Harlen Wheatley, Traveller was chosen from more than 50 blends with the distillery settling on Blend No. 40.

“From the beginning, we set out to elevate the art of blending through the Traveller expression,” says Andrew Duncan, global brand director for Buffalo Trace Distillery.

“Sazerac’s world-class distilling teams have created an exceptional, complex blend that pleases a wide range of whiskey palates across the globe. That uniquely approachable liquid and its rapid acceptance by drinkers has earned Traveller coverage on major US cultural platforms including The Today Show and The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.

“Combined with these highly regarded awards and positive consumer feedback, Traveller proves that whiskey can be for everyone, which is exactly what Harlen and Chris set out to create.”

Traveller Whiskey headed across the pond to make its UK debut last month, coinciding with Stapleton’s All-American Road Show tour. The sellout UK and Ireland leg of the tour kicked off in Manchester on 16 October and headed to Glasgow, Birmingham, Dublin and London, where an additional date was added.

Stapleton, who was born in Lexington near the Buffalo Trace Distillery, is known for his love of whiskey, releasing multiple songs about the brown spirit over his more than 20 year career. Buffalo Trace’s E.H. Taylor whiskey became a staple on his home bar after the musician tasted it during a recording session for his first studio album, Traveller.

Bottled at 45% ABV, Traveller Whiskey offers an aroma of vanilla, aged fruit and buttery shortbread, with a touch of oak. Flavours of spice, toasted nut and oak follow on the palate. It is priced at US$39.99.
