Ron Barceló showcases new Rare Blends rum
Centre stage at this year’s Bar Convent Berlin was Ron Barceló’s Imperial Rare Blends Mizunara Cask. We caught up with the brand to learn about its latest release and plans to become the world’s most exported dark rum.
Otto Flores, global head of brand ambassadors at Ron Barceló, is excited about the future of the Dominican rum brand.
At BCB, the brand’s stand was buzzing with excited visitors, eager to discover the latest releases from the brand – and to cheer on the Barceló Rumtenders Competition.
First, the Barceló Imperial Rare Blends Mizunara Cask rum. The spirit was distilled from Dominican sugarcane and initially aged in American white oak barrels with varying degrees of toast. Once the desired flavour profile had been reached, the rum was transferred into virgin Japanese mizunara oak barrels.
Tasting notes include aromas of toasted wood, vanilla, sandalwood, coconut and ginger. The palate brings spice and a dry finish.
“People have been very responsive, not only to the mizunara,” noted Flores.
Furthermore, the brand hosted the latest round of the Barceló Rumtenders Competition during BCB. The cocktail competition rewarded the winner with the chance to visit the Dominican Republic and compete in the global final of the Barceló Rumtenders Competition 2024 edition.
Flores shared the brand’s ambitions for the coming year and beyond: “So far, Barceló is in 94 countries worldwide and the idea is to keep on growing to strengthen our position as the most-exported dark rum and the most international among Dominicans. So besides communicating our new rum, it also creates business opportunities.
“The focus in 2025 is to keep focusing on the Rare Blends collection.”
