Bosque introduces Iconic Barrels series
Argentinian brand Bosque Gin has partnered with Luigi Bosca Winery to create a special edition Refugios barrel-aged gin.
Bringing together two Argentinian alcohol makers, Bosque Gin and Luigi Bosca Winery, the first release of the Refugios Iconic Barrels will be available on 19 October on Luigi Bosca’s online store.
Iconic Barrels is a special edition version of the brand’s Refugios line, its series of cask-rested gins.
With Iconic Barrels, the brand said its aim is finding ‘extraordinary barrels with a legacy worth sharing’.
These include the story of wineries, distilleries, and cooperages that have mastered the art of barrel ageing.
Bruno Ananía, founder and CEO of Bosque, said: “We were inspired to seek out barrels from around the world that stand out as truly special and iconic and allow our gin to rest and take refuge within them.”
For Iconic Barrels Luigi Bosca Edition, Bosque gin rested for eight months in five carefully selected barrels from Luigi Bosca winery.
These barrels previously held Paraíso, the winery’s flagship wine, infusing the gin with aromas and flavours that contribute to its ‘unique character’.
The expression combines the winery’s expertise in barrel ageing with Bosque’s passion for innovation.
The distinctive profile brought by the wild Patagonian juniper in the distillate ‘meets the fruity and spicy notes imparted by the barrels, resulting in a gin rich in history and complexity.’
Of its ideal pairing, Ananía suggested the gin is “best enjoyed neat or alongside the wine previously housed in the barrel”.
With Iconic Barrels, Bosque encourages consumers to discover a ‘unique gin’ while extending an open invitation to partners – wineries, distilleries, and cooperages – interested in joining future editions by contributing to the ongoing evolution of the line.
The core Refugios line is rested for six months in French oak casks.
Ananía explained: “In Bosque Refugios, our barrels rest in a cabin at 1,000 meters above sea level, in Patagonia, at the foot of the Andes. The altitude and reduced oxygen levels on one hand, and the low temperatures on the other, result in a delicate influence of the wood and the ambient oxygen on the liquid. This subtly generates new flavours and aromas, which tend towards vanilla, nuts, and honey.”
Earlier this year, the Patagonian gin brand’s founder and director Juan Chereminiano relocated to the US to expand Bosque’s presence in the market.
