Lux Row reveals latest Blood Oath trio
By Rupert HohwielerKentucky-based Lux Row Distillers will launch the third edition of its Blood Oath Trilogy in September, featuring a collection of rare Bourbons.
A new Blood Oath trilogy is unveiled every three years, the last being in 2021.
It is created by the company’s master distiller, John Rempe, who seeks out famous and forgotten Bourbons, and bottles them in combinations called Pacts. Rempe does not disclose where the rare Bourbons are from.
For the third Blood Oath edition, the set contains Pacts 7, 8 and 9, which have been reserved since 2021, 2022 and 2023.
Pact 7 is a blend of a 14-year and two eight-year ryed Bourbons, one of which was finished in Sauternes casks. Thanks to the Sauternes finish, Pact 7 is described as having a nose of ‘caramel, oak and honey’ with flavours of ‘apricots, honey and peaches’.
Pact 8 then brings together a 14, 11 and eight-year-old ryed Bourbon, finished in Calvados casks. The Calvados casks give the resulting Bourbon tasting notes of ‘apple on the nose with hints of vanilla and cinnamon’, as well as flavours of ‘ripe apples, juicy pears, butterscotch and subtle hints of chocolate’.
Lastly, Pact 9 features a blend of a 16, a 12 and a seven-year ryed Bourbon finished in oloroso Sherry casks from the Sherry Triangle region in southwest Spain. The company said that the use of these casks imparts notes of ‘sweet Sherry with hints of ripe fruit and spicy oak on the nose’.
The trilogy will be available in a limited supply of 1,400 sets for US$799.99 from September.
Each Pact in the set has an ABV of 49.3% and will never be repeated again.
Rempe called Blood Oath a “passion project”.
He said: “Each new Pact brings together everything that I love about creating memorable Bourbons – from the unique blends to the cask ageing. This third Trilogy edition is something truly special and I’m looking forward to sharing this unique collection of Bourbon history with our fans.”
Lux Row Distillers is owned by Luxco and produces the company’s Kentucky Bourbon brands, including Ezra Brooks, Blood Oath and Rebel.
Recently, it added a Sherry cask-finished whiskey to its Rebel 100 line.
