Rebel 100 debuts Sherry-finished whiskey
By Lauren BowesKentucky’s Lux Row Distillers has added a Sherry cask-finished whiskey to its Rebel 100 line.
The whiskey is aged for four years at Lux Row Distillers before being finished in oloroso Sherry casks in Jerez, which adds ‘overtones of caramel and vanilla, with hints of raisins, figs and plums and a nuttiness complemented by subtle spicy oak notes’.
As with all whiskeys in the Rebel 100 range, the expression is bottled at 100 proof (50% ABV).
John Rempe, master distiller and blender at Lux Row Distillers, said: “Rebel Bourbon fans around the globe have a treat in store with the oloroso Sherry cask finish; it embodies the true passion of Spain and perfectly complements Rebel’s temperament of wanting to disrupt the norm.”
Just 6,000 bottles of Rebel 100 Bourbon Oloroso Sherry Cask Finish have been produced exclusively for overseas markets. It will be distributed by Craftwork in the UK and Kammer-Kirsch in Germany, and retail at £44/€39 (US$56).
Greg Mefford, international sales director at Luxco, which owns Lux Row Distillers, added: “Innovation in American whiskey is at the heart of what we do at Luxco and Lux Row Distillers never disappoints. John and his team have gained a huge global fan base, with Bourbon collectors, as well as those new to the category, who are equally excited by the frequent unique releases.”
The launch follows four secondary finishes from Rebel Bourbon since 2019: French oak barrels, Cognac casks, tawny Port barrels and Cabernet Sauvignon barrels.
Last year, Rebel’s brand manager Philip Lux revealed his plans to expand the brand.
