El Tequileño bottles still-strength Tequila

Looking to meet the growing demand for “innovative” Tequilas, El Tequileño has added a still-strength expression to its lineup.

El Tequileño
The Tequila is bottled straight from the still at 50% ABV

The liquid has been bottled as soon as it comes off the still, which the brand says captures the agave ‘in its purest form’.

The method is based on traditional techniques used 65 years ago by the brand’s founder Don Jorge Salles Cuervo and also gives it a higher ABV than typical Tequilas – 50% ABV – as it has no water added after distillation.

Made from 100% Blue Weber agave, El Tequileño’s Tequila contains aromas of ‘cooked agave, roasted fig and orange zest’, and ‘bright floral’ notes with ‘lemon peel and white pepper spice’.

Steffin Oghene, VP of international sales for El Tequileño, said: “The release of this new liquid signifies an exciting step forward for our company and the industry.

“As Tequila’s popularity soars, there is a growing demand for innovative expressions that push the boundaries of what is possible in the world of agave spirits.

“At El Tequileño, we like to rise to the challenge of crafting something never seen before and steering innovation in the industry, as seen with the debut of the world’s first-ever Reposado Rare.”

Recommended neat, on the rocks or in a cocktail, El Tequileño Still Strength can be purchased for US$64.99 throughout the US.

The brand said the appeal of a still-strength Tequila lies in the distiller’s ‘delicate touch’, needed to balance the herbal, citrus notes found in a high-proof Tequila.

Tony Salles, El Tequileño’s master distiller and Don Jorge’s grandson, added: “We start with the finest mature agave from Los Altos de Jalisco, meticulously crafted to produce the most exceptional Tequila.

“Fermented in open tanks and exclusively distilled in copper pot stills, our Still Strength Tequila boasts remarkable robustness and complexity, offering a silky mouthfeel and a smooth finish.”

El Tequileño has also been busy increasing its international profile this year, landing in Asia, France, Cyprus and The Netherlands.
