Daddy Bao team to open Good Measure bar
The team behind London’s Daddy Bao will open a hidden bar below their Taiwanese restaurant next month, called Good Measure.
Situated underneath Daddy Bao in south London neighbourhood Tooting, the subterranean bar takes its inspiration from the cocktail scene in Taipei and will open on 6 September.
Seating up to 15 in an intimate space, dimly lit by candles and set to a backdrop of infusions that the team are currently working on, as well as stacks of ingredients, spices and steamer baskets, the bar will serve a regularly changing menu of ‘punchy’ cocktails, but with a Taiwanese twist.
Highlighting ingredients and flavours used prominently in Taiwan’s culinary scene, these will include an Old Fashioned made with peanut-infused Buffalo Trace whiskey and brown sugar syrup; a Taipei Sour with plum, lemon, guava and cinnamon syrup; and a serve called the Apricot Affair that features a combination of plum sake, yuzu sake, Cocchi Americano and apricot brandy.
In addition, the bar will offer a selection of alcohol-free cocktails, as well as Taiwanese bar snacks to complement the cocktails.
A playlist of old school hip hop and low fi will provide the soundtrack to evenings.
Good Measure will be open on Fridays and Saturdays from 6pm to 10.30pm for walk ins only.
The co-founder of Daddy Bao and Good Measure, Abhinav Malde, said: “Good Measure will reflect our favourite bars in Taipei – an intimate space, cool atmosphere and quality drinks. It will have its own identity, distinct from Daddy Bao upstairs, with that fun energy you get from a hidden bar. It should feel exciting to be sat downstairs, amongst our storeroom shelves, with a fantastic playlist and an incredible cocktail menu.
“Good Measure will bring something totally new to the area and be a natural place to stick around for a drink or two after your meal, or plan your evening around. We’ve been thinking about opening this bar for a while but it felt like the right time as we came back from a research trip to Taiwan with lots of ideas on how to utilise the space.
“We have such a strong bar team at Daddy Bao who are constantly coming up with amazing drinks for the restaurant; it felt right to give them a dedicated space to develop a whole new menu.”
Good Measure’s exact location will be underneath Daddy Bao in Tooting, 113 Mitcham Rd, London, SW17 9PE.
