Aldi creates non-alcoholic ‘gin’ range
By Georgie CollinsSupermarket chain Aldi has added two alcohol-free ‘gin’ expressions to its Greyson’s range: 0% London Dry and 0% Pink Berries.
Created in collaboration with Glasgow-based non-alcoholic drinks producer Spirits of Virtue, Aldi has launched its two zero-alcohol ‘spirits’ in response to claims that almost half of Britain’s youngest drinkers are turning down booze in exchange for no-alcohol alternatives.
Julie Ashfield, managing director of buying at Aldi UK, said: “Shoppers are increasingly looking for new ways to enjoy low- or no-alcohol drinks, which is why we are excited to expand our offering with the 0% London Dry ‘Gin’ and Greyson’s 0% Pink Berries ‘Gin’.”
Aldi’s product developer Angela Mount worked closely with Spirits of Virtue to handcraft the two Greyson’s 0% products to a specific brief.
Mount said: “In developing all these drinks, we try to get as close to the original style and flavours of the alcoholic versions, thus creating natural and authentic flavours. It’s great to add these further medals to our growing collection.”
The Greyson’s 0% London Dry is available for £8.99 (US$11.47) per 700ml bottle. Similar to its alcoholic counterpart, Greyson’s London Dry Gin, it claims to have a juniper-forward flavour profile.
It is recommended paired with tonic water and a wedge of lemon or lime for a ‘refreshing take’ on a classic G&T.
As an alternative to Greyson’s pink gin expression, Aldi has created Greyson’s 0% Pink Berries, which also retails for £8.99 per bottle. The fresh berry flavours and subtle notes of juniper are said to ‘pair beautifully’ with tonic water and strawberries to garnish, offering a summertime tipple that’s ‘bursting with flavour’.
Available in stores from today (12 August), Aldi says that its non-alcoholic expressions are up to 40% cheaper than Gordon’s, which first launched its alcohol-free ‘gin’ in 2020.
Earlier this summer, Aldi called on all ‘gin-iuses’ in the UK to trial its gins for free and become members of the Aldi Gin Club.
In May, the supermarket launched its Greyson’s London Dry Gin in alternative paper packaging.
