Portofino debuts La Penisola
Italian brand Portofino Dry Gin has created a limited edition expression inspired by ‘the beautiful landscape of Portofino peninsula’.
The expression has 10 botanicals, with its core ingredient being local maritime pine needles that ‘evoke the aromas of the Ligurian Riviera’. Other botanicals include juniper, sage, marjoram, lemon, grapefruit, mandarin, rose, bay leaf and rosemary.
It is distilled using the London Dry method, with all ingredients distilled simultaneously.
The brand’s flagship gin combines 21 botanicals distilled individually.
Portofino is backed by English singer Jack Savoretti.
Bottled at 43% ABV, the limited edition release retails for €49.50 (US$54) for a 500ml bottle.
The release furthers Portofino’s sustainability aims, with the bottle’s label paper made from 100% cotton linters and its caps made from 35% recycled plastic.
The design of the bottle is intended to ‘reflect the timeless beauty of Portofino’ and ‘embody the spirit of La Dolce Vita’. The glass is blue, to reflect the village’s shores, while its square shape is reminiscent of vintage perfume bottles.
In 2023, the brand partnered with bag designer My Style Bags to create the Riviera Getaway Capsule Collection and with fabric producer Dedar on a furnishings collection for its botanical garden.
Earlier this year, scientists discovered a technique that could guarantee provide greater quality guarantees for gin.
