Ceredigion-based distillery In the Welsh Wind will release its first whisky next week.

In the Welsh Wind
The inaugural whisky will retail for £95 (US$118)

Available from 26 April, there will be 674 bottles up for grabs for an RRP of £95 (US$118).

Drinkers can pre-order the 48% ABV whisky from the distillery’s website on 23 April.

In the Welsh Wind founder Ellen Wakelam said: “This release marks a significant milestone for us as we make our mark on the Welsh whisky industry.

“We are incredibly excited to share our first whisky with the world.”

The single malt was distilled in a ‘state-of-the-art’ iStill and promises a ‘distinctive flavour profile that captures the spirit of Welsh whisky’.

Last year, In the Welsh Wind released a small number of 30-litre casks to give consumers a preview of the single malt. Buyers of the casks were able to choose their cask seasoning from a selection of 10 finishes, which covered the traditional such as red wine and Sherry, and the more experimental, such as Tequila.

The distillery is also releasing a ‘green malt’ whisky in autumn 2025, created from 100% Welsh grain sourced within 10 miles of the site. In addition to whisky, the distillery produces gin, vodka and rum.

In the Welsh Wind gained approval to expand its distillery in 2021, which gave it the capabilities to create whisky. Previously, it was located in a cowshed of the Gogerddan Arms pub, on a main road in Aberystwyth.

Beyond the new whisky, the distillery produces rum and gin, and has eyes on growing its brand through Europe, signing a deal with Danish distributor Bemakers to do so.
