Broken Bones produces a selection of gins and two whiskies, one peated and one unpeated.

With the new equipment, the distillery aims to produce more than 20,000 bottles of whisky annually by 2027.

The producer will start trialling the new equipment towards the end of March and the beginning of April.

Furthermore, the distillery has introduced its first bottling of 2024: Broken Bones Single Malt Whisky.

Aged for three years before being bottled at 46% ABV, the single malt was matured in Slovenian and American oak barrels.

It contains no added colouring and has not been chill filtered. Its taste profile is described as distinctive, floral and full of flavour.

Broken Bones distillery was an idea born between Borut Osojnik, head distiller, and Boštjan Marušič, CEO, and Polona Preskar, sales and marketing director. Their aim was to create a Slovenian whisky that could match the standard of Scotch whiskies.

The distillery’s name came from two unfortunate accidents while the founders were deciding what to name their venture.

First, Marušič broke his leg. A few days later, Osojnik fell and broke his nose. And so, the name Broken Bones came to be.

World whisky has been a growing category of late. At the end of 2023, The Spirits Business delved into the world whisky category to see what was in store for 2024, and named three brands to watch.
