March already? This year is flying past, but time flies when you’re having fun – which you certainly will with our top picks of this month’s events.

St David’s Day, St Patrick’s Day and International Women’s Day are all reasons to celebrate this month, and there are plenty of bar takeovers and trade shows to keep you ticking over in between.

Schmuck preview

What: A bar takeover from the duo behind Barcelona’s Two Schmucks
Where: Back Bar at Hotel Eventi, New York City
When: Every Thursday and Friday in March

Moe Aljaff and Juliette Laroui are the pair who created the Two Schmucks bar in Barcelona and will later this year open a New York City venue – but if you can’t wait until then, they will be serving up drinks at the Back Bar at Hotel Eventi.

They’ll be showcasing some of the new cocktails they’ve created for their new venture, as well as dropping teasers about the venue itself.

What: Peru welcomes some of the world’s best bars
Where: Sastrería Martinez, Lima, Peru
When: Throughout March

Sastrería Martinez is hosting bar takeovers every month for 2024, but this month will see the Lima bar head to Alquimico from Cartagena, Colombia, on 11 March.

It’s also be serving up drinks at Panama’s Colectivo from 12 to 15 March, following up at San José’s Pocket on 18 March.

The fun doesn’t end there though, with Svanen from Oslo heading to Sastrería Martinez and bringing a selection of its signature serves and hosting a masterclass on 22 March.


International Women’s Day takeover at Silverleaf

What: An event shining a light on female bartending talent
Where: Silverleaf bar at the Pan Pacific London
When: 7 March

Four female bartenders will be behind Silverleaf’s bar this month: Chiara Tomei of L’Antiquario, Italy; Erin Hayes of Black Lagoon, US; Selenia Di Palma of Panda & Sons, Edinburgh; and Cherry Lee of Origin Bar, Singapore.

The event, which is sponsored by Hendrick’s Gin, is set to be the bar’s biggest takeover to date and marks the first event in Silverleaf’s ‘Empowerment Series’, which seeks to create inclusivity in the bar community.

During the day, Anna Sebastian, the founder of Celebrate Her, a community platform dedicated to empowering women in hospitality, will host a masterclass alongside leading female ambassadors and bartenders to share their insights on women’s roles in the drinks industry.


ProWein

ProSpirits-ProWein

What: The industry’s largest wine and spirits trade show
Where: Düsseldorf, Germany
When: 10-12 March

New at this year’s ProWein is the ProSpirits area, which will welcome more than 300 exhibitors. The space is 25% bigger than the spirits area last year.

As well as exhibitor stands, the show will host Trend Hour Tastings, covering vodka, liqueurs, agave spirits, brandy, and ready-to-drink (RTD) products.


Dram and Bar 1661 celebrate St Patrick’s Day

What: An Irish bar takeover in the heart of London
Where: Dram bar, Soho, London
When: 11 March

Whisky bar Dram will be welcoming Bar 1661 from Dublin for a thoroughly Irish celebration – expect Guinness on draft and two variations on an Irish Coffee. Bar 1661’s signature take on the cocktail features Bán Poitín, cold brew and cream.

Although the party will be a little earlier than St Patrick’s Day, Dram will be pouring Guinnesses until the big day.


Northern Restaurant & Bar Show

NRB 2023 Tuesday March

What: A trade show for northern hospitality businesses
Where: Manchester Central, Manchester
When: 12-13 March

Bartenders, general managers, chefs, equipment makers and anyone else working in the hospitality industry in the north of England will congregate in Manchester for the ‘biggest and best’ edition of the Northern Restaurant & Bar Show.

Trade tickets are free, and guests can expect spirit masterclasses, and seminars on marketing and leadership. Sacha Lord, the night-time economy adviser for Greater Manchester, and Kate Nicholls, CEO of UKHospitality, will also give exclusive interviews during the show.


Jameson’s St Patrick’s Eve

What: A St Patrick’s Day party, a day early
Where: Times Square, New York
When: 16 March

If it weren’t for this year being a leap year, St Patrick’s Day would fall on a Saturday – that won’t happen now until 2029. Jameson Irish Whiskey is ignoring that and celebrating a day early – featuring a countdown to midnight in Times Square.

The celebration will be hosted by comedians Colin Jost and Michael Che with a surprise DJ performance. Guests will also be able to sample the new Jameson Orange Spritz RTD cocktail.


Milan Mixology Experience Week

Milan Mixology Experience Week

What: An international bar and beverage show
Where: Milan
When: 17-19 March

Now in its third year, Milan’s Mixology Experience will feature tastings, exhibitions, a cocktail bar and lab, seminars and much more.

Plus, Moebius bar and restaurant will be hosting a spring party to welcome trade show guests, with guest bartenders including Jose Luis Leon from Mexico’s Licorería Limantour and Ines De Los Santos from Cochinchina in Buenos Aires.


Speciality Sessions heads to Bristol, Edinburgh and London

Speciality Sessions

What: An education and competition series from distributor Speciality Drinks
Where: The Milk Thistle, Bristol; Panda & Sons, Edinburgh; Stereo, London
When: 19-20 March

After a run of successful London events, Speciality Sessions is expanding to two more of the UK’s biggest cocktail-loving cities and will pit some of the nation’s best bars against each other to gain knowledge and win prizes.

Each event focuses on a specific drinks category, with March’s events based on Irish whiskey. Speciality Drinks’ advocacy manager Hannah Lanfear will join the events virtually, with participating bartenders receiving access to rare and unique liquids.


The Cognac Show

What: The world’s biggest Cognac event, from The Whisky Exchange
Where: Glaziers Hall, London
When: 22-23 March

More than 150 Cognac producers will be attending The Whisky Exchange’s show, alongside those who craft Calvados and Armagnac. You can meet the makers, speak to the experts, learn how to use Cognac in cocktails and taste hundreds of samples.

Included in each ticket is a free Dream Pour Token, which allows guests to sample one Cognac priced between £250 and £499 (US$317-$632) – last year’s options included Courvoisier XO Royal and Leyrat Glory Extra. Santé!
