Zamora to launch Tequila with NFL star

US-based Zamora Company will launch an ultra-premium Tequila brand later this year, with investment from American football star Dak Prescott.

The Volteo Tequila brand will initially comprise blanco, reposado and cristalino expressions

The brand, named Volteo, will initially feature three expressions – a blanco, a reposado and a cristalino – each made from 100% Blue Weber agave.

Produced by Destileria Casa De Piedra in Jalisco, Mexico, the Tequilas will also be organic and additive free. Zamora Company said more expressions will follow after the debut line-up.

The extent of Prescott’s investment in Volteo hasn’t been disclosed. He is known for his time as a quarterback for the Dallas Cowboys in the National Football League (NFL) where he is fifth in the league’s all-time regular season career passer ratings and won the Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year award in 2022.

Matt Appleby, CEO of Zamora Company’s US arm, said: “Dak Prescott isn’t only a remarkable athlete and a role model to others, he has a sharp mind for business and marketing, and he doesn’t invest in a project unless he completely and truly believes in it.

“As an athlete, he’s very thoughtful about what he eats and drinks, which is why Tequila Volteo is a clean and natural additive-free and organic Tequila.

“I know I also speak for Dak in saying that we’re incredibly proud and honoured to soon introduce this exceptional Tequila to people across the country.”

Volteo is the Spanish translation for ‘turn around’, words that Zamora said describe Prescott’s career.

Prescott set up the Faith Fight Finish Foundation, which empowers people to ‘find strength through adversity’. A portion of Volteo sales will go towards supporting the foundation.

Zamora Company’s spirits portfolio includes Martin Miller’s Gin, American whiskey Yellow Rose and liqueur brand Licor 43, which passed the one million nine-litre-cases sales mark for the first time in 2022.

The company also appointed a new global spirits marketing director last year, ex-Bacardi executive Blanca de la Infiesta.
