Research from the brand found 29% of UK-based respondents will choose rum-based drinks in the coming months, with the Piña Colada ranking as the favourite summer cocktail (9%). This was followed by 7% who said they would choose Sex on the Beach, and 5% who would opt for a Mojito.

One in three (35%) Londoners selected the Piña Colada as their go-to cocktail.

The research survey gathered answers from 2,011 people, and respondents could select multiple answers.

The survey’s results were released to align with the launch for Bacardí’s flavour rooms, which took place in London on 3-4 June.

Marie Peyto, UK brand director of Bacardí, said: “With a combination of aged rum, pineapple, coconut, and spices, I’m delighted that our new Bacardí Caribbean Spiced includes the UK’s favourite summer flavours.

“It’s made for mixing, perfect for the nation’s favourite tropical serves or adding the taste of the Caribbean to simple drinks. We’ve opened the Caribbean Flavour Rooms to give Brits the chance to experience their favourite flavours and our new rum in a truly immersive way.

“With the weather warming up, it’s a great way to kick off Bacardí rum’s series of events across the country this summer.”

Flavours were also queried in survey: coconut gained 59% of votes when assessing consumers’ favourite summer tastes, while pineapple was also popular at 52%, and mango at 43%.

The brand recently launched its Mango Chile rum, inspired by a popular Mexican snack.

Owner Bacardi expanded its team with a new master of botanicals, Alessandro Garneri, and a new managing director in Australia and New Zealand. The new MD, Luiz Schmidt, will return to the region from Panama, where he previously held the role of regional marketing director for Bacardi Latin America and the Caribbean.
