The 6th New York Rum Festival & Congress is scheduled to be held over two days in June.

The rum festival will take place on Saturday 10 June at the Metropolitan Pavilion, while New York Rum Congress will follow on the Monday (12 June) at the Astor Learning Centre.

The New York Rum Festival kicks off a week-long schedule of spirits events in the city. The Indie Spirits Expo is due to be held on 12 June, while on-trade show Bar Convent Brooklyn is planned for 13-14 June.

The first day of New York Rum Festival will see around 150 rums participating in the event, the organiser said.

Seminars will focus on topics such as Jamaican rum, how the category is attracting whisky drinkers, 100% estate-grown rum and Spanish-style rums.

Martha Miller, CEO of National Rums of Jamaica, will speak at the first seminar, called ‘The spirit of the Caribbean, Jamaica leading the charge for a better future’.

A-K Hada, Liz Rhoades and Astrophel ‘Troy’ Arquiza will look at how rum is attracting the attention of whisky lovers in a seminar at 3.15pm local time.

Worthy Park’s Alexander Kong will focus on the theme of 100% estate-grown rum, alongside Miriam Pacheco, general manager of sugarcane spirit Uruapan Charanda.

The evening will conclude with Ron Barceló brand ambassador Otto Flores, who will discuss the ‘misconception of Spanish-styled rum’ at 6.15pm.

In addition, a trade session will be held from 2pm-3.30pm on 10 June, while VIP ticket holders can join the Rum Experts Session (2pm-7pm) and the four-hour Enthusiastic Session from 3pm.

The Rum Aficionados General Admission Tasting Session will be held from 4pm to 7pm.

Meanwhile, Monday’s sessions will feature a guided tasting of the Hampden Estate range and a Maison Ferrand experience.

Visitors can also help choose the next Holmes Cay release with a tasting of single cask rums from 1.40pm to 2.30pm.

The Rum Lab has partnered with agricole rum specialist Spiribam to host the Congress day with the event split into two parts: The Rum Lab workshops and industry training from Spiribam.

“The team at TheRumLab.com is grateful that some of the most important rum brands in the world trust in us and share our belief that to grow the premium category of rum, education is fundamental,” said Federico J Hernandez, founder of The Rum Lab.

In December last year, The Rum Lab revealed its US festival schedule for 2023, including events in Chicago, Puerto Rico, Los Angeles and San Francisco.
