Oxford Artisan Distillery hires sales and marketing MD
By Alice BrookerEnglish whisky producer The Oxford Artisan Distillery has named former Chapel Down employee Mark Harvey as its managing director for sales and marketing.
Until last year, Harvey held the position of chief marketing officer for wine and spirits company Chapel Down.
He said: “I’m delighted to have joined Dave Smith and the team at The Oxford Artisan Distillery. Working with heritage grains, not only are we producing uniquely delicious whiskies but also leading the revolution in tackling sustainable farming and grain production.
“Like when I started at Chapel Down, there’s great excitement around the journey and growth to come.”
The English rye whisky producer received a minority investment through Diageo drinks accelerator Distill Ventures in November 2022.
The cash injection will support the upgrade and expansion of the company’s Oxford site, which will triple its production capacity while reducing water usage by 90%.
Grain handling will also take place on site to reduce vehicle movements. The Oxford Artisan Distillery will also look to develop additional off-site production, which will support its goal to become one of England’s largest whisky producers.
David Smith, CEO, said: “[Mark] brings with him a wealth of success within both established and challenger premium brand businesses.
“This is great news for our business partners and our consumers as we seek to play our part in the rise of the English whisky movement.”
Additionally, further investment will be put into an ‘enhanced’ visitor experience at the distillery, which will welcome up to 15,000 people per year.
