Irish gin brand Blood Monkey has secured distribution of its flagship expression in Canada via the Liquor Control Board of Ontario (LCBO) and Cork Wine & Whiskeys.

Blood Monkey Irish Gin is the inaugural product from Dublin-based Outcast Brands, and was created by entrepreneur Jason Kidd.

On the launch into the Canadian market, Kidd said: “Canada has a rich history of appreciation for quality spirits, and we are excited to be a part of it. This is just the first step in our plans to expand our availability across North America and we can’t wait for Canadian gin lovers to try our unique and versatile gin.”

The range currently comprises Blood Monkey Irish Gin and Blood Monkey Irish Spice Storm.

The brand name and signature drill bit design are a nod to the act of ‘bleeding the monkey’, when sailors drilled into the officers’ barrel of grog to steal the liquor inside.

Blood Monkey Irish Gin is made from a blend of botanicals including lime leaf, almond, juniper berry, orris root, Irish rosemary, liquorice, coriander seed, chamomile, and angelica root.

Jason Nykor, owner of Cork Wines and Whiskeys, added: “Blood Monkey Gin is a true standout in the market, not only for its unique design, but for its distinct and unparalleled taste profile.

It’s truly a disruptor in the category and I have no doubt that once tried, it will become a go-to for both straight sipping and in cocktails. The gin’s balance, freshness, and uniqueness are truly unmatched and I’m excited to see what the future holds for Blood Monkey.”

Last year the brand was awarded Gold medals at The Gin Masters 2022 blind-tasting competition in both the Ultra-Premium and Contemporary categories.
