Prowein names Peter Schmitz as director
The international trade fair for wine and spirits, Prowein, has appointed Peter Schmitz as its new director, starting next year.
Schmitz, who has held the position of head of Messe Düsseldorf’s international contract business for the last 20 years, will be responsible for the entire global Prowein portfolio.
Messe Düsseldorf is the organisation behind Prowein.
For the past nine months, the trade fair has been under the provisional management of Michael Degen, executive director and member of the board of management of Messe Düsseldorf.
Schmitz will assume the role on 1 February 2023.
He said: “I am absolutely passionate about networking with people and maintaining business relationships all over the world. This is exactly what Prowein is all about and I am delighted to be able to contribute my longstanding experience here.”
As director, Schmitz will report to Degen, whose area of responsibility includes wine and spirits.
Earlier this year, the trade fair saw more than 38,000 visitors attend the three-day event in Düsseldorf, Germany.
The next Prowein fair in Düsseldorf will be held from 19 to 21 March 2023.
Messe Düsseldorf recently revealed it will be taking over the wine section of wine and gourmet Japan from next year.
