Samuel Gulliver teams up with Budgy Smuggler
English producer Samuel Gulliver & Co has partnered with Australian swimwear brand Budgy Smuggler to create a collaborative range based on England’s No.6 single malt whisky.
England’s No.6 is the official whisky of England rugby, and pays tribute to ‘the finest number sixes’ to have worn on the white rose-adorned jersey.
The Budgy Smuggler collection, which includes swimwear and bucket hats, is available in both men’s and women’s options, and incorporates the design of the No.6 bottle, with a 20% donation for every sale going directly to the RFU Injured Players Foundation (IPF) on behalf of Samuel Gulliver & Co and Budgy Smuggler.
Stuart Gulliver, director of Samuel Gulliver & Co, said: ‘We are delighted to work alongside Budgy Smuggler in raising money and awareness for the RFU (Rugby Football Union) Injured Players Foundation, supporting rugby players who experience a life changing injury.”
The foundation provides support and information to rugby players in England who have sustained a catastrophic spinal cord injury or traumatic brain injury while playing the game, and helps prevent future injuries through research and education.
John Larkin, England Rugby fundraising and charity manager said: “The IPF is thrilled to be the beneficiary of a partnership between two great companies who are as passionate about rugby as we are.
“With their support and the support of the rugby family we continue to help rugby players who sustain life changing injuries. Whether professionals or grass roots players the RFU Injured Players Foundation will be there from the time of injury and if needed, for the rest of their lives.”
Budgy Smuggler was founded ‘as a laugh between mates in their backyard’ in 2006, when the group decided to write ‘Budgy Smuggler’ on the back of a speedo-style swimwear.
Since then, Budgy Smuggler has become ‘a key part of the game day kit’, with rugby players around the globe sporting their smugglers under their shorts.
England Rugby’s Jack Nowell said: “Budgy Smuggler has given me the security downstairs to make my career upstairs”.
The brand set up its UK base in 2016.
The UK and European smuggling manager, George Taylor, said: “We’re stoked to get involved and raise awareness for the Injured Players Association. There’s a fair few pairs of Budgy
Smugglers in changing rooms across the UK, so to be able to play a part and get involved in this campaign is pretty important to us.”
Samuel Gulliver & Co’s England’s No.6 whisky is aged for six years in ex-rum casks.
It rests at 46% ABV and is available to purchase via www.gulliverswhisky.com for RRP £69 (US$83.52).
It was presented with a Gold medal at The World Whisky Masters 2022.
