Baileys becomes B Corp business
Diageo-owned cream liqueur Baileys has become the largest spirit brand to achieve B Corp certification.
There are 5,500 B Corp-certified businesses in the world.
The accreditation is awarded to companies that meet particular standards of verified performance, accountability and transparency spanning areas including employee benefits, charitable giving, supply chain practices and input materials, to name a few.
Companies are assessed across categories such as customers, governance, workers, environment and community.
Jennifer English, global brand director for Baileys, said: “As the largest global spirits brand to join the B Corp movement, we are looking forward to working with the B Corp communities across global markets and ensuring that we are using the scale of our business to deliver positive impact.
“While this is an important milestone for Baileys, we know that there is more we can do. We are already looking forward to the delivery of more initiatives as we journey towards our 2030 commitments.”
The cream liqueur brand scored highest on impact areas ‘workers’ and ‘environment’. As of 2022, 75% of the Baileys leadership team are female, and all Baileys employees have access to benefits such as six months of paid annual leave for parents.
Ewan Andrew, president, global supply chain and procurement and chief sustainability officer, Diageo, added: “We want to create drinks that consumers love, with the brand’s sustainability journey and Diageo’s wider 10-year sustainability action plan in mind.
“Becoming B Corp-certified is great recognition for Baileys and the team that work so hard in producing it, from the dairy farmers through to the delivery drivers and everyone in between.”
Baileys recently released a limited edition marshmallow-flavoured variant inspired by s’mores.
