Two Stacks launches single malt in a can

Irish whiskey producer Two Stacks has released a ready-to-drink (RTD) single malt whiskey in the UK and Republic of Ireland.

Two Stacks Dram in a Can Single Malt Double Barrel is said to be the ‘world’s first’ canned single malt

The 100ml Dram in a Can Single Malt Double Barrel is a vatting of double- and triple-distilled peated malt, which delivers a combination of sweat smoke and spiced vanilla honey.

The whiskey has been matured in ex-Bourbon and Oloroso Sherry casks, before being canned at 43% ABV.

It is the second whiskey from the Two Stacks’ Dram in a Can portfolio, after the brand released its inaugural canned blend of malt and pot still whiskey in June this year.

Founded in 2020 by Shane McCarthy, Liam Brogan and Donal McLynn, Two Stacks was inspired by the traditions of old and contemporary brands of new. Opening one of Ireland’s only independent bonders & blenders facilities in 2022, it is the trio’s ambition to combine these worlds together.

McCarthy said: “We want to offer access to premium Irish whiskey in smaller quantities – allowing more experimentation and sharing among friends whenever and wherever. A four-pack of Dram in a Can is meant to be enjoyed at a dinner party, on a camping trip, after a hike, golfing or skiing. Some may even be trying Irish whiskey for the first time.

“It’s been a busy and at times chaotic this summer at Two Stacks headquarters – along with completing the refurb on the warehouse, and with expanding to new markets across Asia and Europe, not only has our energy been directed in bringing new and exciting whiskeys to new and established fan base, but also finding ways to expand our offer in Dram in a Can, the best compact whiskey solution in the market.

“As always, our love of peat is recognised with this latest expression, using 10% Bourbon barrel-aged peated malt as our base from which we built on. The addition of 50% Oloroso cask-aged triple distilled malt provides those characteristically richer, sweeter notes, while the 40% Bourbon cask-aged double distilled malt allows those heavier malty biscuit notes to shine through beautifully.’’

The whiskey is said to have a long finish with ‘an afterglow of peppered smoke and biscuity sweetness’.

“Two Stacks Irish Whiskey has ambitions to become a globally recognised independent bonder, blender and bottler of the most innovative whiskey creations, both in terms of liquid and packaging,” added Brogan.

The Single Malt Double Barrel will also be available in 700ml bottles with a nationwide rollout across Sweden scheduled this autumn, and a wider release across Ireland and elsewhere in the coming months.

Dram in a Can is distributed through Anzac Drinks in Northern Ireland, and Irish Malts and Bevella in the Republic of Ireland.

In the UK it is available via Enotria & Co and The Whisky Exchange.

It will become available via a select number of distributors in Europe and the USA in due course.

It is sold at an RRP of £22.95 (US$26.83) per 4-pack, or £5.75 (US$6.72) per can.
