Victor George Spirits supports Fort Mose
Vodka producer Victor George Spirits (VGS) has agreed to give US$1 from every bottle of Fort Mosé 1738 Bourbon sold to a historical society.
Established in 1738, Fort Mose was the first free Black settlement in what is now the US, located in St Augustine, Florida.
Yesterday (27 June), VGS revealed it will make a donation on behalf of its newly released Bourbon to Fort Mose Historical Society. Victor George Spirits is a Black-owned company founded by Victor Harvey.
The donation will contributes towards educational programmes, events, and creating awareness of the town.
“This donation is greatly appreciated and will help with executing our mission statement of continuing to tell the story of Fort Mose, and the impact it has had in the history of our country – not only for African-Americans, but all Americans,” said Charles Ellis, president of Fort Mose Historical Society.
“We are excited to work with Mr Harvey’s company to educate our youth and make sure this part of history is never forgotten.”
The charitable initiative will be implemented for one year, until 19 June 2023.
VGS produces a namesake vodka, spirits from Palm Beach Distillery, and now Fort Mosé 1738 Bourbon.
“Giving back has always been part of who I am,” commented Harvey. “We knew with the story behind Fort Mose, and us being able to tell it through our Bourbon, that this was going to be a huge brand.
“Our sales exploded all over the US the day it came out, and I told my team we must do more – I saw donating funds from every bottle sold over the next year as a way to do that.”
Fort Mosé retails for US$44.99.
VGS will be releasing Pullman Porters rye whiskey in August this year, followed by a new Tequila range, called Olmec.
In November 2021, VGS secured a loan of US$2.45 million to build a new distillery complex that will include a restaurant and rooftop bar. The Fort Lauderdale Community Redevelopment Agency board agreed to donate the money to fund the construction of VGS’ new facility.
Located at Sistrunk Boulevard, in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, the new complex will be called The Victory Building.
VG Vodka is distributed in 44 states and available to buy from major retailers across the US, including Albertsons, Kroger, Trader Joes, and more.
Earlier this year, the producer agreed to acquire a majority stake in Florida’s Palm Beach Distillery as part of its plan to become the largest Black-owned spirits company in the world by 2025.
