NYC rum festival returns for fifth year
Organiser The Rum Lab will host its fifth New York Rum Festival on 18 June at Metropolitan Pavilion, featuring around 160 expressions.
The fifth New York Rum Festival will see more than 40 rum brands participate, offering at least four expressions each.
The schedule of seminars will include talks from industry experts covering topics such as Mexican rums and ‘Yet to be Discovered Rums’.
The latter talk will be hosted by Eric Kaye from Holmes Cay and Worthy Park Estate’s Alexander Kong, who will offer consumers the chance to learn and taste rums that are under consideration for release.
Rob McCaughey and Deniece Bourne will also teach specific techniques for tasting and smelling rum, following the Wine & Spirit Education Trust (WSET) method.
The Rums from Mexico seminar will introduce the country’s sugar cane industry and explore the Rones de Mexico Distillery.
A panel of experts and rum aficionados will discuss premium rums, including tasting notes and sipping techniques in the ‘Basics to Sipping Premium Rum’ talk.
The festival will be split into three sessions, including a trade and media tasting from 2pm to 3.30pm (US$45), a VIP tasting session from 2pm to 7.30pm (US$95) and general admission entry from 4.30pm to 7.30pm (US$75).
Joint tickets for two people to enter the VIP or general admission session are also on offer.
Furthermore, the event will provide a ‘designated driver pass’ for those who will not be drinking during the festival. The cost of the ticket is US$20 and provides entry from 4pm to 7.30pm.
The Rum Lab hosts rum festivals across the US, in cities such as Miami, Chicago, Seattle, San Francisco, and Los Angeles.
