Educational platform The Rum Lab will host the Chicago Rum Festival on Saturday 30 April at Logan Square Auditorium in Chicago, Illinois, in the US.

More than 50 rums will be available at the festival, along with a programme of seminars.

The event will be divided into three sessions from 2pm to 7.30pm CDT. First will be the Industry Session from 2pm to 3.30pm, followed by general admission from 4.30pm to 7.30pm. The VIP tasting session will take place all day.

Participating brands include Appleton Estate, Don Papa, Flor de Caña, Saint James, Mount Gay, El Dorado, Ron Barceló, Worthy Park, Don Q, Rum Bar, Plantation, Tanduay and Chairman Reserve, among others.

The educational programme includes the ‘Yet to be Discovered Rums’ seminar, which will provide a sneak peek of upcoming releases with Eric Kaye, from Holmes Cay Rum, and Worthy Park Estate’s Alexander Kong.

Mexican rums will also be highlighted in a talk hosted by Rones de Mexico Distillery from 4pm to 4.45pm.

An in-depth look into the use of cane juice instead of molasses in rum production will also be discussed by a panel of experts at 5pm.

The day will conclude with an introduction to rum and how to drink it properly, presented by Neat Glass at 6pm.

Tickets are available to buy from chicagorumfest.com.

The Rum Lab held its Miami Rum Congress event earlier this month in partnership with the UK’s Rum Fest.

The organiser revealed its programme of rum events in the US this year, including two new festivals.
