Spirits Network offers Scotch whisky cask NFTs

Streaming platform Spirits Network has partnered with The Borders Distillery to sell 1,000 Scotch whisky casks, each with an accompanying NFT.

The Borders Distillery is offering a Scotch whisky cask NFT

For US$3,600, collectors will be able to purchase a private cask of whisky from The Borders Distillery through ‘shoppable entertainment’ service Spirits Network.

The cask comes with an NFT featuring an image of the distillery or its surrounding area of the Scottish Borders.

NFT owners will also be entitled to a bottle from Borders’ first release of its single malt Scotch, which is said to be the first of its kind from the region since 1837.

“We are delighted to partner with Spirits Network for this one-of-a-kind offer,” John Fordyce, co-founder and managing director of Borders Distillery. “There is great interest in owning your own cask to celebrate anniversaries, graduations, engagements, and special moments. Spirits Network is bringing The Borders Distillery to America, a first.”

After the cask is filled, its owner will have access to an app which allows them to track its development.

Once the whisky has fully matured, the distillery will bottle and ship the liquid from each cask to its respective owner. Each barrel is expected to yield between 240 and 270 bottles.

“During this time when so many are striving to become more involved in owning or making their own spirits, we are thrilled to partner with the renowned Borders Distillery to offer this exclusive experience to Spirits Network members,” said Nick Buzzell, CEO of the streaming service.

Spirits Network was founded in the US in 2019, and made its UK debut at the end of last year.

The Borders Distillery is the latest spirits producer to tap into the NFT market, following in the footsteps of Patrón Tequila, Hennessy Cognac and Top Shelf International, to name a few.
