Brown-Forman grows board of directors
By Melita KielyJack Daniel’s owner Brown-Forman has appointed Jan Singer to its board of directors.

Effective immediately, Singer’s election takes the total number of board members to 12.
Singer most recently worked as the chief executive officer of clothing company J Crew. In this position, Singer led the company through a financial restructure, value creation planning, e-commerce acceleration, and brand positioning.
Campbell P Brown, Brown-Forman board chair, said: “Jan is a veteran consumer and retail executive with a reputation for building for long-term growth while responding to current consumer needs.
“We’re delighted for her to bring that experience to the Brown-Forman board of directors.”
In 2018, Singer was named a ‘national outstanding mother’ honouree in recognition of her contributions and influence as a mother, businesswoman, philanthropist and mentor.
Singer also worked as chief executive officer for Victoria’s Secret Lingerie in 2016, and previously worked as chief executive officer of Spanx.
Her achievements also include 10 years at Nike, and serving as a board director for Kate Spade from 2015 to 2017.
The Brown-Forman portfolio includes brands such as Finlandia vodka, El Jimador Tequila, Woodford Reserve and Old Forester Bourbons, GlenDronach Scotch whisky and Slane Irish whiskey.
Earlier this month, Brown-Forman created European distribution arms in Belgium and Luxembourg, and opened a new office in Brussels.
In December last year, a tribunal ruled Bacardi must pay its former distribution partner Brown-Forman a sum of more than £51 million (US$67.6m).
