M&S claims Dangerous Don as its only mezcal
By Kate MalczewskiUK brand Dangerous Don has gained a listing with Marks & Spencer (M&S) and become the only mezcal available through the retailer.
Dangerous Don was created by Thea Cumming, who founded the bar Doña in London’s Hackney neighbourhood.
M&S has taken on the brand’s Espadín expression, a mezcal artesanal made in Oaxaca, Mexico, by producer Juan Nacho Diaz Cruz.
Cumming’s range of mezcals also includes Destilado Con Café, a coffee-infused mezcal, and the recently launched Destilado Con Mandarina, an orange-flavoured expression.
To coincide with the M&S retail deal, the brand has created new 500ml bottles and gift boxes for the Espadín bottling.
Dangerous Don Espadín clocks in at 45% ABV and is priced at £35 (US$46.90) at M&S shops across the UK.
Earlier this year, Cumming discussed changes in the mezcal certification process with The Spirits Business.
Mezcal has gathered momentum over the past few years, with the value of the category climbing by 18% in 2020, according to the Consejo Regulador del Mezcal.
