For the past five years, The Whisky Exchange has created a mystery bottling for Black Friday. Last year’s expression sold out within two hours of its launch.

This year’s limited edition Speyside whisky was released online at six o’clock this morning, and became available in the retailer’s bricks-and-mortar shops at 11am.

Just 1,800 bottles are available, priced at £110 (US$146.48).

“Customers want something special on Black Friday and we’re the only whisky specialist that produces its own special bottling for the day,” said The Whisky Exchange co-founder Sukhinder Singh.

“Our customers trust us, so while nobody knows what to expect when we reveal our Black Friday whisky, they take a chance on it, and for good reason: we’re well-known for finding very nice whiskies.”

According to Billy Abbott, brand ambassador for The Whisky Exchange, the single malt offers fruity aromas of “sweet apple and white-wine-poached pear, raisins and sultanas, flambéed pineapple and creamy banana splits”, with a palate of “more apples and pears”, plus “tropical fruit jelly”, “darker notes of polished oak and bittersweet dark chocolate”, spices and “old leaves”.

The finish delivers “old oak and a touch of cherry sweetness fading to leave mocha coffee”.

Earlier this year, Pernod Ricard agreed to buy The Whisky Exchange for an undisclosed sum.
