Ginato extends presence in South Africa
Italian gin brand Ginato has secured distribution for its full range in South Africa through liquor merchant Truman & Orange.
The Kirker Greer Spirits-owned producer rolled out two of its expressions in the South African market last year, and is now expanding its presence by introducing its entire collection.
John Soden, chief commercial officer of Kirker Greer Spirits, explained: “Following a successful launch with two of the Ginato expressions in 2020 there has been a great demand and positive feedback on the range.
“We are delighted to offer the full Ginato Italian Gin range to consumers in South Africa and broaden our global footprint in a market that has shown great growth potential for the premium gin category. We look forward to continuing to work together with the team at Truman & Orange to strengthen our presence in this market.”
Ginato’s gins are made from grapes grown in Italy’s northern wine regions, with juniper sourced from Tuscany and citrus hailing from southern Italy. The range includes Melograno, flavoured with Barbera grapes and Sicilian pomegranate; orange-flavoured Clementino; grapefruit-infused Pompelmo; and lemon-flavoured Limonato. Each expression sits at 43% ABV.
Truman & Orange founder Rowan Leibbrandt said: “We couldn’t resist not only the colour but also the flavours of Ginato. It’s perfectly balanced: a classic, gentle juniper underpins the delicious grape flavours and citrus juiciness.
“We know that with so much choice in the gin category, the product has to offer something truly special for South Africans to try it and we’re confident that Ginato does exactly that.”
Last month, Ginato made its Australian debut when it secured listings with retailers Dan Murphy’s and BWS.
