Sipsmith moves into alcohol-free ‘spirits’

Beam Suntory-owned Sipsmith has unveiled its first alcohol-free expression, called Free Glider.

The Sipsmith team tested 189 recipes before settling on the final specification

Sitting at less than 0.5% ABV, Free Glider was developed over the course of two years by the gin producer’s master distiller, Jared Brown.

“With more people than ever before choosing to moderate their alcohol consumption, combined with our continuously unwavering commitment to pioneering spirits of uncompromising quality, we were determined to create the best tasting alcohol-free option yet,” Brown explained.

“It’s taken a while to get it right; two years, in fact, near 200 prototypes, to reach a taste experience that we at Sipsmith are truly happy with.”

The final recipe contains seven ingredients, including juniper and citrus. Capsicum is also added for spice, which ‘replicates the warmth usually found in a gin’.

“We believe this is the perfect treat for those who are choosing not to drink and gives sippers a genuinely great sipping experience,” Brown concluded.

Sipsmith Free Glider is available for purchase in Waitrose, Sainsbury’s, Ocado, Amazon and sipsmith.com for an RRP of £22.50 (US$31.30).

In April, Sipsmith launched a strawberry-infused gin to mark its partnership with the Wimbledon tennis tournament.
