Uncle Nearest acquires land to extend distillery

American whiskey brand Uncle Nearest has purchased 53 acres for US$2.1 million to expand its Tennessee distillery.

Uncle Nearest has bought an additional 53.12 acres to bring its distillery’s total coverage to 323.12 acres, located in Shelbyville, Tennessee.

The purchased land will contribute towards an extended frontage of the Nearest Green Distillery, which covers half of a mile of ground along the Highway 231 North.

Fawn Weaver, CEO and founder of Uncle Nearest, said: “Expanding our distillery allows us to increase our production capabilities, as well as to continue to enhance the guest experience, so every person who visits has a reason to return again and again.”

The expansion will result in 100 acres of land being dedicated to the planting and growing of its own non-genetically modified, organic corn for its whiskey.

The distillery, which first opened in 2019, reopened its doors in June after being closed for more than a year due to Covid-19 restrictions.

This year, the whiskey producer greets visitors with ‘the world’s first non-alcoholic speakeasy’, a new welcome centre, a single barrel rickhouse and a family tasting room.

Weaver added: “Every weekend, when Nearest Green Distillery opens its doors, we welcome guests from all over the country. At any given time, we have guests from more than 20 states represented, who have all come to Tennessee to experience the cementing of the legacy of Nearest Green.”

Tours at the Nearest Green Distillery are currently being run on Saturdays and Sundays, and can be booked on Uncle Nearest’s website.

Last month, Uncle Nearest invested in New York-based brand Sorel liqueur.
