From a rooftop bar and cinema to a Hong Kong drinking den designed by one of Daft Punk’s collaborators, a host of exciting new watering holes opened in March.

March saw a number of exciting new drinking dens open up around the world, all ready to welcome imbibers who could venture out as lockdown orders began easing.

In this compilation, we uncovered a new Hong Kong venue featuring an interior designed by the creative director for French dance music pioneers Daft Punk, and found out more about a new cocktail-and-food-pairing concept in New York’s East Village.

Cassio, Hong Kong

Hong Kong bar and lounge Cassio has opened, offering entertainment, a ‘cutting-edge music programme’, and Spanish tapas-style dishes.

The venue features an interior that was designed by Daft Punk creative director Cédric Hervet, alongside Nicolas Hervet.

Cassio owner Gilbert Yeung said: “I want Cassio to be a groovy place where people can lose themselves in the design, music and food. We’re not just a nightclub. We’re welcoming you to your second home where you can spend a whole evening having fun – starting with after-work drinks and tapas and if the mood is right, stay on to dance the night away.”

Reserve by Amor y Amargo, New York

The team at Amor y Amargo in New York’s East Village have opened Reserve, a drinking and dining experience offering food and cocktail pairings.

Reserve by Amor y Amargo offers drinkers in New York a cocktail and food tasting experience, developed by mixologist and executive chef Sother Teague. Pairings on offer include the Cubist cocktail, made with aquavit, Suze, vermouth and olive bitters, paired with a dish comprising cured carrot, tofu scallion cream cheese, pickled onions and capers.

Reserve by Amor y Amargo is a ticketed experience, priced at US$120 per person. Bookings for the venue can be made online via Resy.

Drunken Farmer, Singapore

Travelling bar and bistro Drunken Farmer has opened its first bricks and mortar home in Singapore’s Central Business District.

Now open on Stanley Street in Singapore, Drunken Farmer is serving up a diverse menu of small plates and drinks, centred around sourdough, ferments and a minimal waste philosophy.

Opened by lifestyle company Spa Esprit Group, the menu at Drunken Farmer includes dishes such as Sourdough Karaage, which features a tangy batter made using sourdough discard, and the Blue Prawn Rolls, which are slathered in laksa sambal made with prawn head and shells. Dishes are joined on the menu by a selection of signature cocktails, as well as a diverse natural wine offering.

The Roof, Los Angeles

Sky-high bar The Roof at The West Hollywood Edition hotel in the US has opened.

The Roof offers a diverse drinks programme, which includes Latin and tropical-inspired serves. Cocktails on offer include the Diablo, which combines Volcan Blanco Tequila, pomegranate, habanero shrub and Cointreau, and the LA Confidential, made with white rum, lime, strawberry and absinthe.

Now offering drinks and dinner, the hotel bar has opened in line with local, state and CDC guidelines. As such, seating capacity is limited and reservations are required.

Embla Rooftop Bar and Cinema, Melbourne

Melbourne bar and restaurant Embla has opened the doors to a rooftop bar and cinema.

Taking over a rooftop on a building neighbouring the Embla venue, Embla Rooftop Bar and Cinema is showcasing a diverse range of movies that can be enjoyed alongside its menu of drinks and dishes.

In the coming weeks, guests can view screenings of films such as The Big Lebowski, The Greatest Showman and Pulp Fiction, alongside cocktails including a Negroni, Tommy’s Margarita and Espresso Martini.
