Tattersall Distilling plans ‘destination distillery’

US spirits producer Tattersall Distilling is planning to open a ‘destination distillery’ in Wisconsin after efforts to change Minnesota’s ‘restrictive’ alcohol laws proved unsuccessful.

By relocating to Wisconsin, Tattersall said it would be able to pursue ‘unrestricted’ growth, sell an unlimited amount of spirits at the new location, and release ‘rare, one-off spirits’.

The new facility will open in autumn this year and will span 75,000 square feet. The site will focus on sustainability, with indoor and outdoor event spaces, plus an on-site restaurant, large retail market and expanded production facilities.

The move means Tattersall can increase production while keeping its cocktail room in Minneapolis. The company hopes to be able to reopen its northeast Minneapolis cocktail room this summer, with extra seating to help consumers remain physically distanced.

Jon Kreidler, founder and chief operating officer of Tattersall Distilling, said: “Because of Minnesota’s restrictive liquor laws, to maintain our presence in Minneapolis, we were forced to look outside of the state’s borders. To stay as close as possible, we landed on River Falls and couldn’t be more excited.

“Not only do Dan and I have personal ties to Wisconsin, but the town has a focus on sustainability and renewables, which aligns perfectly with Tattersall’s brand and vision. Not to mention, we’ve got the Kinnickinnic River, mountain bike trails, hiking, golf and more in our new backyard.”

The new distillery is being designed by River Valley Architects and built by Market and Johnson.

The restaurant and cocktail bar will serve modern American cuisine and will have space for up to 150 guests.

An outdoor patio area, with access to an indoor and outdoor bar – with options to sit by fire pits and play lawn games – will have room to accommodate up to 250 guests.

There will also be a large amphitheatre for outdoor weddings, festivals, concerts and markets, plus a grand ballroom indoors with an adjacent pre-event space that can be separated into three spaces, or left as one big space for up to 420 guests.

A boardroom will have room for up to 16 seated guests, while two VIP suites for wedding parties to get ready or to be used as a green room will also be built.

The new site will also house a bigger barrel room, allowing Tattersall to offer ‘unique and intimate’ experiences for events, tours and tastings.

Last year, Tattersall Distilling released an organic vodka and revealed plans to make its entire vodka portfolio organic going forward.
