Mockingbird Spirit creates alcohol-free ‘Tequila’

UK producer Mockingbird Spirit has launched a non-alcoholic ‘Tequila’ made with Blue Weber agave.

The non-alcoholic ‘Tequila’ contains 12 calories per 50ml serving

The debut product from the Bristol-based firm is called Mockingbird Alcohol Free Spirit and claims to be the first non-alcoholic ‘Tequila’ made with Blue Weber agave.

The product was created by Fern McCoy during the pandemic and was the result of seven months of tasting and testing. The expression contains 12 calories per 50ml serving.

The company said it had aligned itself with the non-alcoholic sector and will focus on the wellbeing trend. The firm’s ethos is to “embody the spirit of the mockingbird” by imitating the traditional taste of Tequila and the essence of mezcal.

The expression is also made with ashwagandha, a medicinal herb that the producer claims can “diminish cortisol levels” and “boost energy”.

Tasting notes for the product include “earthy Blue Weber agave, sweet vanilla and cinnamon with a healthy hint of habanero”.

The alcohol-free ‘spirit’ is recommended served as the base for zero-ABV cocktails or paired with soda water and fresh lime.

Mockingbird Alcohol Free Spirit is priced at £22.99 (US$30) per 500ml bottle or £3.99 (US$5.20) per 50ml.

Non-alcoholic ‘spirit’ brand Ritual Zero Proof unveiled a zero-ABV ‘Tequila’ in April this year.
