Lakes Distillery unveils orange wine cask-finished whisky

English spirits producer The Lakes Distillery has added two new whiskies to The One collection, the first finished in orange wine casks and the second in Sherry casks.

The One Orange Wine Cask is limited to 2,994 bottles

The One Orange Wine Cask was finished in first-fill American oak casks, seasoned with Vino de Naranja (orange wine). This ‘rare’ wine is made exclusively in Huelva, Andalusia, on the southern coast of Spain.

Bottled at 46.6% ABV, only 2,994 bottles of The One Orange Wine Cask will be available to purchase.

The One Sherry Cask was finished in PX and oloroso Sherry casks. Bottled at 46.6% ABV, 4,512 bottles will be made available in the UK.

Both whiskies will have an RRP of £48 (US$60) and will be available online from www.lakesdistillery.com

Dhavall Gandhi, The Lakes whiskymaker, said: “To appreciate the art of whisky-making you must first understand that flavour is created throughout the whisky-making process. For The Lakes whisky, it is the art of blending and the interaction between the spirit, air and oak which creates the layers of complexity and character.

“The oak type and the liquid used to season that oak add their personalities as they integrate with the whisky. Working in combination they produce a myriad of flavour combinations, which is precisely what The One collection seeks to reveal.”

Last month, The Lakes Distillery released the third expression in its Whiskymaker’s Reserve range, a single malt matured in a variety of Sherry casks.

In March this year, the distillery secured a £3.5 million (US$4.3m) asset-based loan to help triple its production capacity.
