Kahlúa releases Nitro Cold Brew RTD

Pernod Ricard-owned coffee liqueur brand Kahlúa has expanded its ready-to-drink line with the launch of canned Nitro Cold Brew.

Kahlúa Nitro Cold Brew contains 80 calories per 200ml can

In August 2018, Kahlúa launched a ready-to-drink (RTD) Espresso Martini, said to be the first product of its kind.

The brand has now followed its release with Nitro Cold Brew, a canned cocktail made with rum, coffee liqueur and 100% Arabica cold brew coffee, which has been stepped for 18 hours. It contains 80 calories and, like the Espresso Martini RTD, is designed with a nitro widget that provides foam in under three seconds once opened and poured into a glass.

The brand said the product meets the “increasing demand for coffee and spirits-based RTD offerings”, which has been driven by millennials looking for convenience.

According to Nielsen figures cited by Kahlúa, the spirits-based RTD market grew 78% in the year ending 2 May 2020 and is now worth US$315 million in the US.

Troy Gorczyca, US brand director at Kahlúa, said: “The data shows that the popularity of RTDs is continuing to grow rapidly and as coffee cocktail culture progresses into the RTD category, Kahlúa Nitro Cold Brew is the perfect marriage. Tapping into the desire for convenience without compromise – it’s the best of both worlds.”

Kahlúa Nitro Cold Brew is bottled at 4.5% ABV and best served chilled. The 200ml cans are available to buy in the US from Kroger’s, Albersons and Total Wine and More.
