Tia Maria creates canned Iced Coffee

Illva Saronno-owned liqueur brand Tia Maria has entered the ready-to-drink (RTD) category with the launch of a canned iced coffee.

The Tia Maria Iced Coffee Frappé has an ABV of 4%

The “indulgent yet refreshing” Iced Coffee Frappé is made with 100% Arabica coffee, milk cream and coffee liqueur Tia Maria. Nitro technology means the 200ml can foams when opened.

Neil Jardine, managing director of Disaronno International UK, said: “The ready-to-drink category is in dynamic growth and has a bias towards a younger consumer, which is consistent with our strategy to breathe new life into this wonderful brand.

“Over the coming months we will have more to share on further innovation, which began at the beginning of the year with the introduction of our bold new packaging. Our investment in Tia Maria is substantial and consistently above the category norms, and the combination of new products into the mix enables us to look forward with confidence.

“The Iced Coffee Frappé is our first step into wider product innovation and allows us to present Tia Maria to a broader consumer, meeting new occasions and taste preferences. As we work to broaden our product range, we want to celebrate our one-of-a-kind soul through a refreshed look which is why we’ve worked with street artists to bring a colourful and vibrant look to the Iced Coffee Frappé.”

Bottled at 4% ABV, the packaging for the new RTD has been created by Netherlands-based street artist Karski and features an abstract design.

Tia Maria Iced Coffee Frappé is available to buy from UK supermarket chain Sainsbury’s at an RRP of £1.89 (US$2.30) per can.

In other news, Italian spirits company Illva Saronno will launch its own UK subsidiary in 2021, marking the end of its 20-year partnership with William Grant & Sons UK.

In August 2018, Pernod Ricard’s coffee liqueur brand Kahlúa launched an Espresso Martini RTD, which used a ‘smart’ nitrogen widget to bring bubbles to the surface as soon as the can has been opened to recreate the creamy foam of an Espresso Martini.
